Andrew and Ashley just finished up their Fall Soccer seasons. Perfect timing now that we are living in a real winter wonderland! Watching Ashley play soccer is so refreshing. She runs and runs and is having such a great time. She only kicks the ball a small handful of times, and only by luck. But, each time she gets a kick we are cheering as if she'd scored a winning goal. She is easily distracted, takes breaks to look at any dogs nearby, hasn't really grasped it all yet and is pretty hilarious. But, she loves it and she sure looks cute bouncing around the field and chasing the pack. Most of the kids on her team are very involved in the game but, luckily at her age nobody cares too much that she is just having fun.
Ashley is one of the very youngest on her team and with a late June birthday she will always be one of the youngest at everything she does. Our wish for Ashley with sports is that she be willing to try everything and have fun, and we are really happy that she has such a great attitude and wants to keep going.
Andrew is a great soccer player. He is usually very aggressive and a real player, except when he and his friends get so goofy that they forget to play soccer and try to show off their silliness (which started to happen more and more often towards the end of the season). He is really good at scoring goals and is even better at defense and handling and controlling the ball. The other teams rarely score when Andrew is in the game. His team has 5 boys and 3 girls. In the 7 games this year he scored many goals: 7, 2, 8, 0, 4, 4 and 1. We should have had one more game, game #7, but the other team didn't show up. I can't tell you how heart-broken Andrew was. He talked sadly about it for the entire week. He loves to play soccer and we love to watch him though it's much more intense than watching sweet Ashley bounce around.
As always, we'll be back for more soccer in the Spring, before we even know it.
