Andrew and Ashley are just about done with their spring t-ball team. They both really like the games and it's really fun that they have been able to play together. This team was co-ed and for kids 3-5 years old and so this is the last time now that Andrew is about to start with a real baseball league in May.
We happened to be on a really young, really nutty team. Andrew helped a lot by being the only one who knew what to do and Ashley knew her stuff too and did a great job. Andrew got about 80% of the balls hit and gave up a bunch just to be nice.
Andrew stopped using the tee, and even though it made him a little nervous sometimes he always hit well.
Ashley was always so proud and so excited when she had good hits. We are proud of her for always trying even though she is small.
Ashley and her beloved Daddy, my two peas in a pod.
My three favorite moments from this season all happen to be of Ashley. At the first game Andrew stood waiting for the other team to hit and ready to get the ball. He had his mitt on and hands on his knees, just watching. Ashley got pretty close to him, stood just like him and looked up at him with total admiration, trying to mimic his every move. I tried to take a mental picture because I never want to forget her face and the way she followed him and the way he led her. At another game Dave, Nana and Papa were all there to watch but, all had to leave about15 minutes early. Ashley had been having fun but, at that moment her heart sank. She was sad and for the first time ever, she wouldn't play anymore. She said, "No one is watching me. Daddy isn't watching me, Nana isn't watching me, Papa isn't watching me." I told her that I was watching her, and I laughed inside when she didn't care and didn't respond. I guess Mom is more like an appendage, she's always watching so what difference does it make! Then at another game Ashley had missed the ball on the tee a few times in a row at bat but, this time she got up and smacked it just perfectly. She dropped the bat, put her hand on top of her too big helmet, started running, and gave us a great BIG open mouth smile/scream.
