Family Pet

Andrew found a tiny bug in our house. He put it in a cup and kept it as his pet until overplay killed the bug about 10 minutes later. Ashley was terribly jealous and ran outside to find her own pet. My kids love worms so I was only a little surprised to have a new pet slug. She refused to let him live outside because of birds. He lived with us for about 5 minutes, until he died. We also have a pet bird who is free and lives outside named Buster. He is whatever kind of bird is most common around here and as you can imagine, we see him just about everywhere we go - because he loves our family and follows us, and definitely not because there are so many that look the same. Once Ashley's slug died she changed her mind and excitedly threw it on the grass in hopes that Buster Brown would come eat him.
Ashley loves dogs and cats and all animals like crazy. She loves dogs more than any child on the planet (in my opinion, of course). She can think of nothing else if a dog is in view. Every time we go to a new place or house her first question is if there is a puppy there. She beelines to any dog at the park, etc.
She keeps asking if we can get a puppy but, for now a wormy slug pet might be her only pet. Luckily, our two immediate neighbors both got new puppies this year, almost all our neighbors on the street have a dog, and all of our cousins have dogs. A dog that lives at someone else's house is the best kind of dog for me! (at least for now)
