Andrew Allstar Baseball

Andrew was invited to play on the Millcreek Allstar A team for his age group. Dave was asked to be an assistant coach. Other areas put together several teams and just about anyone who wants to play can but, not Millcreek. There is almost always just one team per age group. If Millcreek wants to compete they need to send at least an A and a B, the more the better. This year they finally formed a B team, at the request of some parents, which I was thrilled about.

His team didn't practice even half as much as his previous team last summer, which was hard since most of last year's team had moved up to the next age division and most of this year's team had never played in Allstars before. We practiced a lot at home and Andrew did a wonderful job. He played 2nd base most the time and a little bit of first base. This was his last year in machine pitch and he hit well time after time. He played like an Allstar and we were proud of him.
Andrew's team wasn't great but, they managed to pull off enough wins to qualify to go the State Championship Bracket. A handful of his teammates really weren't ready for Allstar play, which made for some disappointing loses but, Andrew had so much fun that he didn't seem to care. We were so proud of his individual play that we didn't care much either.

His siblings had to keep entertained game after game

This team picture was taken just their last loss which put them out of the State Tournament. I learned that kids will mimic their parent's attitude toward the experience and loss. Dave and I were so proud of Andrew and happy he had been able to do it, and also a little happy to be done with long drives to faraway games day after day, so that we could get back to enjoying summer. So, we celebrated the great season. Andrew felt proud and happy too. Another parent was mad and frustrated at the loss and his child was devastated.

Andrew has been one good thing after another in my life. It is so easy and so wonderful to be his mother.

Our family got 7-11 Slurpees and headed straight to play at Canyon Rim Park. Katie had a messy diaper that ruined her outfit and had to wear the only extra clothes I had; Nathan's. She's so thin that the size 9 month baby boy clothes fit pretty well.
