Swim Lessons

Andrew and Ashley finished up their first two-week session of swim lessons for this summer. We went to a backyard pool just around the block and LOVED it. The kids were in the same class with 2 other kids and always 2 or 3 teachers. It was convenient, cheap, close and fun. We will do a few more sessions at the same pool and some more sessions elsewhere, just for variety.
Andrew is a little fish. He does really well and is super confident, too confident actually. He thinks he can swim all on his own and everyday he would just start swimming away from his teachers without saying anything, at least a couple times. He can hold his breath for a long time and he can swim alone almost all the way across the short side of a pool (almost is a pretty important word there). Luckily the class size was tiny and I was 5 feet away watching. He loves games, relay races, everything he gets to try alone, wearing goggles, being under the water, goofing around, and on the last day he loved the diving board and slide.
Ashley is very comfortable too, so long as she stays warm enough. She is brave and willing to try anything they asked. But, if she stops moving and gets at all cold it's over. One day the sun was shining through tree branches and casting lights all over the pool water. For some reason Ashley was convinced the lights were monsters under the water. I couldn't talk her out of it and that day she didn't swim much.
Ashley working on a back float. Andrew really has his back float now. He has never liked doing it before and somehow these pretty girls taught him.
I love summer, just love it.
