A swim at the Wharton's pool
Ashley was just there for a few minutes and left to go to an activity with friends. Andrew's friend James B came along and they had fun using Hailey and Katie for chicken fights.
Nate loves sunglasses and wears them almost all the time. These glasses with no lenses were the perfect find for inside. He's the cutest little guy.

Andrew brought James B and Ashley brought Nathan J
Our family went for our annual visit to Red Butte Gardens for an evening. Dave could come along too. Our library pass had free tickets for this as well and we had a great time exploring.
Dave thought it was so funny to get Andrew to stand just so in front of the fountain. Pretty soon Andrew caught on to the fact that it looked like he was peeing. We had a good laugh.
They found a giant grasshopper!
The soccer season began the Saturday before school started. Katie began her first year of soccer with an Impact rec team. Her cute coach is McCall Nelson and she is on a team of darling boys and girls including Edie Nelson, Mandy Hinckley, Wrenly Chipman and other new friends. She started the season willing to play but, nervous and not ready to be aggressive. Many of he teammates were very scared to try and so we were happy she was ready to go out and play on her own. In the first 3 games she played really well and had fun. By game 4 she was playing amazing! In game 4 she had 3 goals and was so excited. In the next couple of games she played awesome, tried hard and had lots of great kicks, some goals, blocks against the other team and tons of great dribbling down the field. She improved a ton all season and always had so much fun! We're so proud of her effort and happy attitude!
After game water balloon fight thanks to awesome Coach McCall.
Hailey began another year of soccer with her Impact team too. This year the team went to all girls so, now they play against only girls. Hailey is a very aggressive player and a big contributor. She played hard in each game all season. She runs hard, has lots of good dribbling and kicks, had some blocks and steals, and if she falls or collides with another player she always pops right up and starts running hard again. She's super tough and has tons of fun. This season she scored a goal in nearly every game and sometimes 2. Her team has Stella, Mary and Remy from our ward. Her coach was Ashley's coach for her first 3 years of soccer. The coaches daughter and 3 other cute girls are from the Morningside neighborhood. We're so proud of Hailey for her toughness and huge effort. We're proud of her for having so much fun and always wanting to play and try her best.

Ashley started soccer too of course. I was so into her first game that these are the only 2 pictures I took. Ashley's team from last year dissolved and she considered trying comp but, decided instead to join several of her favorite friends on their soccer team. It made for a wonderful year for her to be with friends and not have to play against them. Her old team wasn't very good but, last season when they played this new team Ashley was so determined that her old team did win 3-2, with Ashley scoring all 3 of those goals. It was nice to not have to play against a team of friends this year!
She plays aggressive. She runs hard and has faster reaction time than most girls her age. She is a fantastic forward. Her team won most games except 1 lose and 1 tie. Over the 8 game season Ashley scored 10 of her team's 35 goals. In one game she had to play goalie for half the game, which she hated but, she did great and they didn't score on her. In that game she had 1 goal. In another game her team won 1-0. Ashley didn't score that goal but, she did have the assist with a fantastic pass at the goal. I track this not to brag or say that the stats matter, they don't. But, Ashley is a great player and she shows a passion for it and it's fun remember. We are proud of her for being so tenacious and trying so hard even when it's hard. She is tough and got kicked in the tummy one game and went down but, she was up and ready to play a few minutes later. She is a fun friend and a great player.
Andrew is on a comp soccer team this year. His games started one week later than the girls in rec. After a day filled with soccer we spent the late afternoon and evening at Cherry Hill.

After church pictures that weren't successful. Sometimes life is like that. I still think they look cute and I think I will look back and smile at these pictures. These are busy days. Most days these kids drive me crazy at one point or another. But, we are together and close and safe. We have so much time to be together. We are enjoying our days. Any stress we have is actually pretty insignificant. Any problems they have can be solved. It won't be like that as they get older. I want to treasure these days because each year seems to go faster and they've grown more.
A Sunday evening playing and biking at the church parking lot on the last day of summer.
School started August 21st. Here are the kids on their way to the bus stop with their backpacks and bags heavy with school supplies. They were each excited. No one showed it but, I'm sure they felt a little nervous too.
Ready to 5th, 4th and 1st grade!
Andrew has Mrs. Pascoe, Ashley has Mrs. Chai and Hailey has Mrs. Baxter. It should be a great year!
They rode the bus and then I met Hailey over at the school for her 1st grade parent meeting for the first 15 minutes of class.
Ashley and Ivy
I was sent this great picture of Seth, James and Andrew. It's their last first day at Upland Terrace.

Harper, Hailey, Haddie and Lucy. I'm jealous of how well Hailey's little legs tan!
The first day of school was also the day of the Solar Eclipse. It was a 100% eclipse in Idaho and still pretty amazing here in Salt Lake. The school kids got to watch it with their classes. Katie and I watched it at home while Nate colored.
The tree leaf shadows were so interesting during the eclipse.
We met up with Kim and Charlie at Canyon Rim park for lunch.
Their home! We missed them so much! Andrew was off to a friend's or basketball or something.
Katie, Nate and I went to the Sandy Splash Pad for the ward playdate. Katie and Truman love playing together!
Back to school night for Andrew's class.
When the big kids are gone at school we miss them! But, we still want to fill our summer days! Kate and Nate had a few extra swim days at the Wharton's.

One last day at Cherry Hill, but only this one picture to remember it happened.

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY HAILEY!
Birthday candy poster from Daddy
I came to bring Hailey's birthday treat to share with the class and to have lunch with her at school. Her classroom job for the week was lunch bucket carrier.

For birthday dinner Hailey chose Panda Express. Poor Ashley couldn't come because she was at dance. Our kids love Panda Express!
Hailey had Nate laughing so hard on the ride home.
Our Beautiful August Birthday Girl!
Present Time!
One of her favorite presents was this Toucan Beanie Boo stuffed animal from Nana and Papa because it came with tickets for her and any siblings and cousins she wants to have a day with Nana at the Tracy Aviary.
She got a handful of fun, cute little presents and candy. She is very easy to please and was excited, happy and grateful.
Hailey was adamant that she decorate her cake. I made the cake and frosting and then we separated the frosting into bowls and she chose food coloring and did the rest. She wrote her name in purple frosting and it was perfect and perfectly her.
Cousins and cake time.
Hailey's birthday party is scheduled for 2 weeks later, because it is a combined party with Katie.
There is so much to love and celebrate about Hailey. She is sunshine and sweetness. She is full of energy, love and personality. She cares so much about her family and friends. She loves to make others feel special. She is a party planner and cares about others' feelings. She is thoughtful and kind. She is talented, smart and hard-working. Hailey is cuddly, hyper, loud and quiet. She loves to participate. She builds others up and is a kind friend. She is so tiny but so tough. She is a creative problem solver and creative artist. We have been so blessed each day to have Hailey in our family and we love her to the moon. Happy 7th Birthday Hailey. If only you could stay little!
Happy Birthday! Goodnight Hailey!
Andrew's soccer began with a 4 game tournament. Here he is ready to go in. He is one of the 4 new kids on the team. He is younger and inexperienced. We are so proud of him for working hard to make this team and for working hard to earn playing time on this very competitive team. He is fast, smart and trying hard. In the tournament he was the first sub to come in. In the 2nd game he scored a goal and also kicked in a corner kick that nearly went in and then was tapped in by a teammate. When the season began he did have a goal in the first game. He didn't have any more goals for the next 7 games but he did have some close ones as well as some assists and a few more assists that didn't score but, almost did. His confidence was shaken with this very competitive playing and he was not used to having to work so hard for a goal. But, we are still so impressed and proud of him as a soccer athlete. He has great skills and smarts. He is getting better with time and most importantly he is trying hard and having a good attitude.
Ashley and Callie at the Utah game!
And that's a wrap on August 2017! Oh how we love it!
