October is wonderful because the weather is usually nice and there are fun family activities available because of Halloween. We love Scary Hill at Cherry Hill. We went for a day with lots of friends too. It was really fun! There is a bounce house, little boats, rock climbing wall, maze, mini-golf, a tractor ride, etc. The kids love it and it isn't very crowded so they can have fun running with friends from thing to thing.

Andrew & Ashley are great little climbers. They both made it to the top of a couple different routes. Ashley had one that she wanted to quit but I told her to keep at it and she did. She was proud of herself when she reached the top. I'm always impressed by their climbing and their friends were impressed too since Andrew and Ashley were the only ones able to get to the top.

I had told the kids that this year we were not buying any costumes for Halloween. We have lots of dress up clothes and costumes and they needed to pick from that. That was easy for all the kids except Andrew, since he is the oldest and doesn't have as many choices. One night we had the ward Halloween party hosted by the YM and YW...no pictures. His 4 siblings chose costumes and Andrew last minute wanted to be Thing 1 from Dr. Seuss. So, he wore red, his red Ute wig and I printed a paper in Dr. Seuss font that said Thing 1 and taped it to his belly. A couple older kids showed up in really nice Thing 1 costumes. He didn't have a great costume but, he realized he had looked fine and nobody cared and he had fun regardless. I think he taught him to not worry about things like that, which is a great talent.
Grandpa Bob and Bonnie bought us tickets to the Red Butte Garden Halloween activity. It was really neat. We traveled from area to area with a passport and did a Halloween type activity at each "country", plus just enjoyed the gardens. We ended up staying until way past dark and it was really cold by the end. We had a great time and the kids would love to do it again. This night Nate was Scooby Doo, Kate was an Owl, Hailey was a Bunny, Ashley was a Mummy and Andrew wore a crazy red wig.
Lagoon Frightmares! It was super crowded and the lines were long but, we had fun and got our amusement park fix.
Nate hated every ride he went on which was sad. He's about the cutest thing ever. The other kids loved every single thing they went on.

Nate is a worker man but, he also loves babies. This night he showed us that he's been paying attention when his 3 big sisters are having their hair done. He brushed and used the blow dryer just right like a real pro. It was so funny.

Nate doesn't really like being in a costume but Hailey and Kate sure do. Hailey was a Bunny again, Kate was Doc McStuffins and Nate wore his monster shirt.

Andrew and Ashley had a piano recital and were encouraged to dress up. Andrew still hadn't settled on a costume so he was a Ute fan and Ashley was a Mummy. He was nervous this time but he played his piece very well. I am so proud of my piano kids for practicing and learning so much. It's hard work for them and me and I hope it's something that they can use in their lives.

The last day of Soccer games was October 29th. I write down how their games go afterwards...I don't know why I do that but, I do. Hailey played her best all season. She had 1 goal, several assists, lots of great kicks and a big handful of goal attempts that just barely missed. She worked hard and helped her team. She is learning and loving it. We are proud of her!
Andrew had another great soccer season. His team was undefeated. Andrew plays mostly forward and sometimes mid and then defense too when his team pulled ahead by a bit, which was often. He is an excellent shot and pass. He had 10 goals this season (his team totaled 52, so they are a high scoring team), more impressive is probably his many, many assists, and while on defense he had several really awesome blocks too. It is fun to watch him play. He is fast, smart, strong and hard-working.

Ashley is part of team of cute friends but, most of them are horrible at soccer. She is an excellent player; she runs so hard and so fast and is very aggressive. Her team won only 3 of 8 games. Ashley scored 11 of their 15 goals for the season. She often tried to pass but, it rarely went well. It is great because she is learning to work hard and is exercising and feels like a star of her team but, it's bad because they rarely win and she isn't learning how to play a position.

Again, I told the kids we weren't buying any Halloween costumes this year so they had to use what we already have. Andrew was planning on being a Ute Fan but he switched his mind a million times up until the morning of when decided he wanted to wear the pirate suit. This is the same costume he wore when he was 4 years old. He couldn't wear all the pieces and it was short and tight but he managed to pull it off. I'm a little alarmed he could still fit. He ended up loving it because he got lots of compliments and felt like it was a fun costume.
The afternoon kindergarten kids joined the morning kids on Halloween so they could be in the parade. I helped in Hailey's Kindergarten class party. My station was reading Halloween books, which was awesome and easy. I dressed as a cowboy.
After the party I took the 3 littles to Trick or Treat at Dave's office.
June was dressed as a Ladybug, so we called her Junebug. Trick or treating at the office was super fun.
